Meet Spain’s Oscar de la Renta: Isabel Sanchís Stuns with Spring/Summer 2025 Collection in Madrid

It’s no secret that I’m a fashion enthusiast. But that said, it is a rare occasion that I will say straight out that I would buy a look straight off of the runway. It was a yellow, strapless mini dress, with a slight A-line flare at the waist, with fabric flowers, also in yellow and creating a relief-like effect, all over the front. Case in point: a look from the Isabel Sanchís spring/summer 2025 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
And when I say that was one of the more simple looks, I am not exaggerating. Isabel Sanchís is known for her couture designs, all of which are handcrafted in Spain, and you might recognize her name from luxury retailers such as Farfetch. She is a regular at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, as well as the Ritz Paris, where she shows her exquisite designs to clients that, over the years, have come to span the globe.
The spring/summer 2025 collection was no different. As with so many designers we have seen at Madrid Fashion Week, their Spanish origins clearly come through. In the middle of the runway stood a lilac lit olive tree, a wind machine blowing its leaves and branches to simulate a light breeze. The lilac color came through on the rest of the set as well; it was a zig zag, lilac runway that allowed viewers to appreciate the designs from all angles.
Let me share of a few of my other favorites:
This white, Grecian goddess dress, perfect for a glam summer night out.
The back bow detail on this black gown, reminiscent of Australian designer Rebecca Vallance, although bows are so universal, you can’t say one copied another.
The immaculate attention to detail on these looks, difficult to even describe in words, so here’s some visuals instead.
Oh, and the bags, which reminded me of Romantica Milano, Clio Peppiatt and the viral Shrimps bag, sparkling to the brim with crystals and beads, while others were reminiscent of Chanel, tied at the waist.
Last but not least, the music at the show – the main theme from “Succession” could not be ignored. Paula Maiques, Isabel Sanchís’ daughter, has been part of the company since 2013, and her son, Francesc now takes care of everything when it comes to commercializing the brand. Stores are placing Isabel Sanchís’ designs alongside Oscar de la Renta and Zuhair Murad, and the succession is assured.
Added on Monday, September 16, 2024: And an update because we published this review on the day of the show, and a day later, Isabel Sanchís was awarded this year’s L’Oréal Paris Prize for the best collection of 2024. For the first time in the 25-year history of the prize, two brands were presented with this award, the other one being Pedro del Hierro, which celebrates its 50-year anniversary this year (if you’re in Madrid, you can stop by the accompanying Pedro del Hierro exhibition at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum until November 3, 2024). Pino Montesdeoca, in turn, was awarded Model of the Year, on stage with a broken arm, and still walking the runway. That’s true dedication, congratulations to all.
