My TikTok Videos Got 15+ Million Views in Less Than 3 Months – Here’s What I’ve Learned

Welcome to The Director’s Cut, an interactive column featuring fashion, beauty and career advice from RGNN Director and Founder, @isabelevabohrer.

At RGNN Academy, we have a lot of experts, many of them who work in fashion and social media. The TikTok game is nothing new to them. And yet, when my video about Christian Louboutin’s So Kate heels serendipitously started going viral on TikTok in April 2024, I was intrigued – if you haven’t watched it yet, my TikTok is @isabelevabohrer. So I ran with it, and posted consistently on the app for three months. 15+ million views later, here I am, eager to give back to our community of aspiring influencers and content creators. Read on to see what I have learned first-hand and use these tips if you, too, want to create content on TikTok.

@isabelevabohrer Replying to @kathrynkurt Practice makes perfect! 😉 btw, if you love the look of @Christian Louboutin heels, I’ve found that the 100mm Hot Chick heels are more comfortable than the 120mm So Kate 😘 #louboutin #christianlouboutin #louboutinsokate #louboutinhotchick ♬ som original – edits

Tip #1: It doesn’t matter when you post

The time of day does not seem to matter. Also, don’t delete your videos if they don’t do well in the first few hours. Some of mine didn’t go viral until a few days after posting. Also, on the weekends, people seem to comment and engage more than on weekdays.

Tip #2: Shorter videos can get more views

But longer, chatty videos can give your audience more information and help you build a relationship with them. I would not recommend posting anything shorter than 5 seconds.

Tip #3: Keep up with the news in your industry

My videos on the Christian Louboutin So Kate heels, which I have been wearing for years, were of interest to people right now because Zendaya also wears them and her stylist, Law Roach, just talked about them in an interview.

Tip #4: Follow trends, but that can’t be everything

Using viral audios can get you views but not necessarily followers. For people to follow you, you need to be consistently giving them value (be it useful information, entertainment, inspiration, etc.)

Tip #5: Respond to comments

And by that I mean both with video replies and regular text comments. Some of my video replies have gotten more views than the original video. That said, you don’t have to respond to all comments, of course. Many of them are repetitive in the first place.

Tip #6: Add text directly on top of the video in the TikTok app

People tend to read the text in the video more than they read the caption. So use that to your advantage, be it by adding POVs, quotes and more.

Tip #7: Take advantage of the location function

This is especially relevant if you are posting about events in your area. You will then get people commenting from that location or even in that city/country’s language. Put your location (not the exact street where you live, but the city, state, etc.) in your bio, too. This is especially useful if you later on want to land collabs with brands, attend events, and more.

Tip #8: Vlogs, GRWMs…

Post these once your audience already knows you. If they do not know you, they will not be interested in your life.

Tip #9: Post the unexpected

If you are posting the same thing as everyone else, don’t expect your content to go viral. It won’t – “been there, seen that,” is what people will think.

Tip #10: In the end, you never know what will go viral

When I posted my first video about the Christian Louboutin So Kates, I did not anticipate it going viral. You can do all of the above, but you still never know in advance which video will get the most views, so just keep posting. For example, my street style video on espadrilles is currently at 1.7+ million views; I know that espadrilles are popular, especially in Spain, but I did not think the video would get so much traction.

Ultimately, and no surprises here, you have to be consistent to get results. But if you don’t post quality content in the first place, there is no point in posting three times a day. Better to post once a day (or even less), and make it your best shot.
