Welcome to The Director’s Cut, an interactive column featuring fashion, beauty and career advice from RGNN Director and Founder, @isabelevabohrer.
“Only here I am free to do so without limits,” said Giorgio Armani. But this quote wouldn’t mean anything without the context. He is referring to his haute couture collections, specifically Giorgio Armani Privé, which was first shown in Paris in 2005. Now, Armani himself, in an exhibition he curated for his very own museum, Armani / Silos, is bringing his haute couture creations to the public back to the epicenter of the brand, to Milan.
“In my Haute Couture collections, I express my vision of style and elegance through the art of craftsmanship and savoir-faire: only here am I free to do so without limits,” he commented in a press release. “Twenty years of Giorgio Armani Privé have been an extraordinary, liberating journey. Now, I want to share it with a wider audience, inviting them into this dream of mine, a dream of dresses woven from imagination and grace. A very special world that takes on new meaning in this exhibition.”
At now age 90, Giorgio Armani has established a legacy in the fashion world that will not be forgotten. And the exhibition, titled “Giorgio Armani Privé 2005-2025, Twenty Years of Haute Couture” is commemorating his high fashion across the entire Armani/Silos space in a sensory experience that goes beyond gracefully embellished gala dresses and elaborately adorned blazers to match.

Bois d’Encens, the signature scent of the Armani Privé fragrances collection, is diffused throughout the exhibition and an original soundtrack, created specifically for the exhibit by L’Antidote, permeates the color coordinated rooms. As if the dresses didn’t sparkle enough already, the lighting of the exhibit accentuates them even further with a pearly, moonlike glow, reminiscent of rare stones.
It’s a rare occasion that the general public gets to see such creations up close. Take the dress, for example, that Jennifer Lopez donned to the 2010 Oscars – yes, that was Armani Privé. The dress that stands center stage to open the exhibition? Just a few weeks ago, Irina Shayk was spotted, -literally, because it has lamé polka dots,- on the red carpet at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival with this 2019 runway look.
On the top floor, you can admire the runway accessories up close; two decades of working with the most precious fabrics and materials, and the resulting creations are timeless. If you’re still looking for more, the Armani digital archive is also on that very floor. You can book a time slot in advance, and digitally explore the collections first-hand. Without limits, sharing a dream of his. Armani has proven it himself – it’s a very special world.
