Daughters, Debuts and Other Highlights From Spain’s Atelier Couture

Welcome to The Director’s Cut, an interactive column featuring fashion, beauty and career advice from RGNN Director and Founder, @isabelevabohrer.

It was one of those rarer days in Madrid, when it was pouring outside the Royal Tapestry Factory. We were taking refuge in the hallway to enter the couture fashion shows; a location steeped in history, the 300-year old Royal Tapestry is the home of Atelier Couture, Spain’s platform for high fashion, including bridal, evening and cocktail attire.

The crowd outside fashion shows is usually the same – editors, journalists, photographers, videographers, buyers, influencers, content creators and friends of the brand. But this afternoon, the friends of the brand were not the usual suspects. I struck up a conversation with the couple in front of me. “Do you know the designer?” I asked, as I had seen them saluting Teressa Ninú, the face behind the eponymous brand that we were all waiting to see today.

“Actually, our daughter is walking the runway today,” replied the father. And by daughter, that was not a 21-year-old model. Today marked the debut of Teressa Ninú’s collection for kids, and a first for me, as well – I had never seen a runway show with little girls in them. Teressa herself briefly walked out to say hi before the show, telling me how excited she was. What a proud moment for all of them, and what a special show to attend. Telemadrid, Madrid’s TV channel, was there, too, to film content with the designer and the little girls, and we all saw ourselves on TV the day after. Surely, the designs will be of success in Málaga, which is where Teressa’s atelier is based.

In fact, the heritage of locally produced couture came out again in so many of the designs on the runway at this season’s edition of Atelier Couture. Some of my other personal highlights – the hats, or should I say hairpieces, at the Genoveva Hita show. What showstoppers. And the earrings at the Antonio Rabadán show. I am a huge fan of statement earrings, and let me just state that these are stunning. And this dress below from the Señorito Ortega show – my favorite design of them all.

Moments before the shows backstage, I conversed with Laura Lomas of her also eponymous brand. She reached for one of lace tulle embroidered designs. “All of these dots are embroidered by hand,” she said, holding it up to show me. Wow.

And the shoes? Calzados Franjul. Yes, the brand that designed the shoes for the spring/summer 2026 Carolina Herrera show that marked history on Madrid’s Plaza Mayor in September. Calzados Franjul, which is normally also present at other events like Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid signed an exclusive contract with Carolina Herrera for thirty days, and has not been able to show until now, at Atelier Couture. Another first, let’s hope there are more of these in store for Spanish fashion.

Thank you, Atelier Couture, for inviting us.
