Olivier Rousteing, Creative Director of Balmain, has become quite the fashion icon. Surrounded by celebs such as Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, J.Lo and Beyoncé, he has taken the Balmain brand to the next level.

His iconic contoured cheekbones are ever-present on his Instagram. And since we wanted to know how he achieves them, we found Vogue‘s article “Getting Olivier Rousteing–Worthy Cheekbones Is Easier Than You Think” quite the read! Here’s how he does it:

According to Tom Pecheux, makeup artist of choice for Balmain’s backstage, the trick of the cheekbone trade comes down to one thing: contouring. But not so fast: It’s not just a simple streak here and a blend there; it’s all about positioning. “You have to put the contour lower on the face than you think,” said Pecheux. By “lower” he means starting just above the mouth and continuing under the cheekbones. It’s an area easily found by sucking in. “When the girls are complaining about baby fat or a round face, we have them suck in their cheeks a little bit,” says Pecheux, “and where it hollows out is where we put the contour.”
